WildSpa Sauna & Plunge

Please arrive on time so that you can enjoy every moment.

  • WildSpa is located in a secluded spot beyond Westerlands House with stunning uninterrupted views of the South Downs.

    Easily accessible from the Rose Room, a winding path cuts through the grass and leads directly to the private WildSpa garden.

    This is a peaceful escape exclusively yours for an hour to relax and reconnect with nature.

  • Drinking water is provided.

    Please wear a swimming costume.
    We recommend you also bring your own dressing gown and flip flops.

    Please bring towels with you.
    From your accommodation if you are staying with us.

    We have a warm outdoor shower with a small changing room if you want to change your clothes on site.

    We do have lockers next to the shower room which you are welcome to use - the code is 0000.

    Please remember to take your towels and all your belongings with you when you leave.

  • • Arrive on time, changed and ready for your designated time slot

    • Shower before entering the sauna and plunge pool (outdoor shower is provided)

    • Bring a towel and sit on it throughout your session

    • Stay in the sauna for no longer than 20 minutes at a time. We recommend 10-15min periods

    • Stay in the plunge pool for no longer than 10 minutes at a time. We recommend 1-5min periods and only 30 seconds if you are not used to it

    • For experienced users we recommend using the plunge pool thermometer to work out how long it is safe to stay in the pool. One degree = One minute

    • Gently pour water onto the hot rocks in the sauna stove using the ladle from the bucket of sauna water provided; do not dump water or use any other water

    • Do not shave or bring any lotions or creams into the sauna

    • Remove any hanging jewellery before entering the sauna to prevent burns

    • Remove glasses or contact lenses before entering the sauna to avoid any damage to coatings and to prevent contact lenses from drying out

    • Do not let the temperature inside the sauna go above 90C (fire risk). Please open the door to cool it down

  • Your safety is important to us

    Do not use the sauna if you suffer from high or low blood pressure or any heart or circulatory disorder or suffer from epilepsy or diabetes; are pregnant; or are prone to dizziness or fainting.

    Hydrotherapy can be vigorous on the body, and you need to be fit and well enough to use the facilities.

    If you have any concerns about using the sauna due to medical conditions, underlying health issues or the use of prescription medication, it is crucial that you consult your doctor before using the sauna & plunge pool.

    You understand that you use the sauna & plunge pool at your own risk and will take precautions to take care of yourself. This includes staying hydrated, allowing the body to become accustomed to the extreme temperatures, and moving around slowly.

The Rose Room & Garden

Please arrive 10mins before your appointment so that you have time to undress (if appropriate) and to answer any questions from your therapist before your treatment starts.

  • With its original 17th century wooden floor, open fireplace and soft lighting, the Rose Room is a private, nurturing and spiritual space located in the East Wing of Westerlands House. South facing french windows lead to the private Rose Room garden.

    On arrival walk down the stone steps on the left side of the main house and enter the Rose Room through the french windows.

  • • Be clean, avoid strong perfume, and don’t attend under the influence of alcohol

    • Undress to your comfort level; you will always be professionally draped

    • Follow the therapist’s guidance and keep your phone on silent

    • Speak up simply if needed (e.g. pressure too much/light, avoid an area)

    • Silence is normal—you don’t need to make conversation

    • Treat the therapist as a professional; no inappropriate comments or behaviour

    • Take a moment before getting up and follow any aftercare advice

    • A polite “thank you” is sufficient. Tipping is not expected

    • Avoid arriving late, being disruptive, or cancelling last minute

    Providing as much information as you feel comfortable sharing enables your therapist to plan effectively and use the full length of your appointment for treatment, rather than gathering details on the day.

The Waterlands Room

Please arrive 5mins before your class so that you have time to get settled and to answer any questions from your instructor before class starts.

  • The Waterlands Room is located in the West Wing of Westerlands House.

    On arrival, walk from the car park towards the front of the house and enter the Waterlands Room through the french windows.

  • • Enter quietly and respect the calm atmosphere

    • Inform the instructor of any injuries, conditions, or limitations beforehand

    • Follow the instructor’s guidance and pace; don’t compete with others

    • Keep your phone off or on silent and out of sight

    • Avoid talking during the session unless necessary

    • Be mindful of personal space and others around you

    • Respect the start and end of class (avoid leaving early unless essential)

    • Clean and return any equipment after use

    • Practise good hygiene and avoid strong scents

    • Stay for relaxation/closing where possible—it’s part of the practice

    • A simple thank you to the instructor is appreciated

The Good Gut Garden

  • The garden and clubhouse are next to the car park.

    Wear sun-protection and a hat. Gloves will be provided.

  • • Check in with your instructor or whoever is coordinating

    • Follow guidance on what tasks to do—don’t assume or start new projects unasked

    • Handle tools carefully and return them clean and to the proper place

    • Respect shared spaces, plants, and ongoing work by others

    • Harvest only what you’re told and in the agreed amounts

    • Be mindful of wildlife and the environment (avoid waste, compost correctly)

    • Work at a steady, considerate pace—no need to rush or compete

    • Be friendly and cooperative; community gardens are social as well as practical spaces

    • Supervise children and ensure they respect the space

    • Clean up your area before leaving

    • Let someone know when you’re heading off

    • A simple thank you or offering help at the end is always appreciated

    • Use tools correctly and only if you know how—ask if unsure

    • Check tools for damage before use and report any issues

    • Lift carefully (bend knees, not your back) and don’t overexert yourself

    • Stay hydrated and take breaks, especially in heat

    • Be aware of uneven ground, sharp objects, and trip hazards

    • Keep a safe distance when others are using tools

    • Wash hands after gardening, especially before eating or drinking

    • Be cautious of allergens, insects, and stings

    • Report any injuries, hazards, or near misses promptly

    • Know where the first aid kit is and who to contact in an emergency

    • Don’t work alone in isolated areas if it can be avoided

The Wooden Pavillion

Please arrive a few minutes early to avoid disrupting the session.

  • The Wooden Pavillion is located in the events field, approximately 5mins drive from the main house.

    Please note that there are no bathroom facilities nearby so it is advisable that you go to the toilet before setting off.

    • Be mindful of space and those around you, especially during dynamic movements

    • Keep your phone on silent and avoid using it during the session

    • Avoid strong perfumes or scents

    • Encourage others respectfully, but don’t distract or interrupt

    • Stay for the cool-down where possible to prevent injury

    • Acknowledge the instructor with a simple thank you at the end

    In addition, during the class:

    • Inform the instructor of any injuries, medical conditions, or if you feel unwell

    • Warm up properly before starting and cool down at the end

    • Use correct technique and follow the instructor’s guidance

    • Start at your own level and increase intensity gradually

    • Stop immediately if you feel pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath

    • Stay hydrated and take breaks when needed

    • Keep a safe distance from others to avoid collisions

    • Check equipment before use and report any faults

    • Use equipment as instructed and don’t attempt unfamiliar exercises without guidance

    • Keep the workout area clear of bags, bottles, and trip hazards

    • Be mindful of your surroundings during fast or high-impact movements

The Trekking Centre

Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for hat fitting.

    Please understand that your late arrival will reduce your activity time. If you do not arrive in time for the departure of a ride, you will not be able to participate.

  • E-Bike cancellations require 48hrs notice for a full refund.

    There are no refunds for horse riding or equine activities. Cancellations more than 48hrs in advance will receive a credit for a future ride or activity.

  • • Movement of horses & ponies and farm equipment around the yard and surrounding areas is unavoidable and we ask you to give way to them at all times.

    • We reserve the right to ask you to leave the grounds at any time if we think you are a danger to yourself.

    • We have a strict no smoking policy. If you smoke you will be asked to leave.

    • We can’t be held responsible for damage, theft or loss of your personal property while on the premises.

    • All animals are unpredictable. Do not feed the horses & ponies at any time. Don’t enter any field or paddock unless authorised.

    • No video or phone video to be published on YouTube or similar websites without Westerlands’ consent.

  • Your safety is important to us.

    For this reason it is important that you read and understand our Terms & Conditions.

    • There are significant risks and dangers involved with horses and horseback riding. Horses are powerful and potentially dangerous animals

    • A horse may, at any time, without warning, and for no reason, jump up, forward, backward, or sideways

    • A horse may become uncontrollable, run wildly, buck, bite, kick, rear up, or step on feet or other body parts without warning

    • Horses become tired, stressed, cantankerous, and their behaviour is unpredictable

    • A horse may trip, stumble, and/or fall down when being led, ridden, or otherwise attended to

    • Weather, terrain, other animals, and/or people and other participants may adversely affect a horse’s behaviour

  • We hope you have wonderful adventures exploring the area around Westerlands. Please note, as highlighted in our T&Cs, these electric hybrid bikes are not suitable to be ridden off-road. Your booking is for the day so please return the e-bike at the end of the day to the same stable at the Trekking Centre where you collected it.
