WildRoots
A different kind of wellbeing
Growing Well, Together
Guided by the principles set out in our Whole Estate Plan, WildRoots reflects Westerlands’ commitment to nature recovery, wellbeing, community involvement, and greater access to the land. It is envisioned as a space for learning, growing, and nurturing.
Its success depends on the collective energy of those who care deeply about the land and want to help shape its future. This is a rare opportunity to be involved from the very beginning — to play a part in creating something that will support both landscape and community for generations to come.
WildRoots Projects
-

Good Gut Garden
The Good Gut Garden is an emerging project at Westerlands — a shared growing space designed to restore biodiversity, enrich soil, and support human gut health through fresh, nutrient-rich vegetables. This garden will be a place to learn, grow, and connect — bringing people together around the rhythms of the land.
For now, it exists as a vision. Its creation depends on the energy and dedication of a community who want to help shape something truly meaningful from the ground up, cultivating both soil and community for years to come.
-

Equine Herb Garden
Building on this foundation, our next project will be to cultivate land to grow and supply plants for our established Equine Herb Kitchen & Café — creating a direct link between soil and stable.
This initiative explores the synergy between nature and optimal horse gut health. By growing carefully selected herbs and botanicals, we connect regenerative land stewardship with equine wellbeing, recognising that healthy soil supports healthy plants, and healthy plants support healthy horses.
Your WildRoots Guides
Led by Harriet, an experienced horticulturist passionate about gut health, and Libbie, a specialist in creative outdoor learning for children, you’ll benefit from their combined expertise in gardening, wellbeing, and nature-based education — shared with warmth and a passion for the outdoors.
Together, you will:
Prepare the ground and plant the first beds
Build habitats that support wildlife
Establish food-growing areas that enrich soil health
Help create a welcoming space for future workshops, gatherings, and community projects
Shape a garden that will grow into a cornerstone of Westerlands’ nature-led wellbeing work
Harriet Turner
Harriet is the founder of Foraged Hope and a passionate guide to plant-led wellbeing. Her journey began through a personal exploration of health and resilience, discovering how connecting with nature and working with plants could transform both body and mind.
With a foundation degree in horticulture and garden design, and five years as a partner in a tree surgery and garden business, Harriet brings both practical expertise and creative vision to her work. Today, she blends her deep knowledge of foraging, herbal wisdom, and gut-health nutrition with a gentle, hands-on teaching style that inspires curiosity and confidence.
Harriet believes in the healing power of nature, helping people explore seasonal plants, develop practical skills, and experience the joy of gardening, foraging, and creating with intention.
Libbie Palmer
Libbie runs TimberNook Chiddingfold, bringing the internationally recognised TimberNook nature‑based play programme to woodland on her family farm on the Surrey/Sussex border. As a mother of six, Libbie saw first‑hand how modern childhood can become over‑scheduled and spent less time in unstructured outdoor play — so she created a space where children can reconnect with nature, explore freely, and learn through sensory‑rich, self‑directed play.
Through seasonal sessions and woodland adventures, Libbie encourages imagination, resilience, mixed‑age play, and real engagement with the environment. Her work is rooted in the belief that giving children time and space to create, discover and problem‑solve outdoors builds confidence, creativity and a lasting connection to the natural world.
WildRoots Community
By becoming a member of the WildRoots Community, you’ll join a safe, nurturing outdoor space where gardening, vegetable growing, and gut health knowledge are shared and celebrated.
The garden is open to members from 9am to 12pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and alternate Saturdays (from 11 April 2026).
Members are welcome to attend sessions as often or as little as they wish. For those who prefer a quieter role, we share regular updates and photos of the garden’s progress through our social media and newsletters, so you can stay connected to the journey.
You’re warmly invited to visit, meet Harriet and Libbie, enjoy a cup of tea, and experience the atmosphere before deciding whether to join.
The gardening year at WildRoots runs for nine months, from March to November, embracing the growing and harvesting seasons of spring, summer, and autumn. During winter, the garden rests, providing a safe, undisturbed habitat for wildlife.

This shared meal is more than just lunch; it’s a moment to pause, connect, and plan the work of the months ahead. Around the table, ideas will be exchanged, projects shaped, and community strengthened — fuelled by good food and good company.
