WildRoots
A different kind of wellbeing
Growing Well, Together
Guided by the principles set out in the Whole Estate Plan, WildRoots reflects Westerlands’ commitment to nature recovery, wellbeing, community involvement, and greater access to the land. It is envisioned as a space for learning, growing, and nurturing.
Its success depends on the collective energy of those who care deeply about the land and want to help shape its future. This is a rare opportunity to be involved from the very beginning — to play a part in creating something that will support both landscape and community for generations to come.
WildRoots Projects
-

Good Gut Garden
The Good Gut Garden is an emerging project at Westerlands — a shared growing space designed to restore biodiversity, enrich soil, and support human gut health through fresh, nutrient-rich vegetables. This garden will be a place to learn, grow, and connect — bringing people together around the rhythms of the land.
For now, it exists as a vision. Its creation depends on the energy and dedication of volunteers who want to help shape something truly meaningful from the ground up, cultivating both soil and community for years to come.

Equine Herb Garden
Building on this foundation, our next project will be to cultivate land to grow and supply plants for our established Equine Herb Kitchen & Café — creating a direct link between soil and stable.
This initiative explores the synergy between nature and optimal horse gut health. By growing carefully selected herbs and botanicals, we connect regenerative land stewardship with equine wellbeing, recognising that healthy soil supports healthy plants, and healthy plants support healthy horses.

Good Gut Gathering
Each month, the team will gather around a hot, wholesome, plant-based and gluten-free lunch — a table filled with vibrant, seasonal dishes made from nourishing ingredients and prepared with care.
This shared meal is more than just lunch; it’s a moment to pause, connect, and plan the work of the months ahead. Around the table, ideas will be exchanged, projects shaped, and community strengthened — fuelled by good food and good company.
Lunch is priced at £10 for non-members and £5 for members.
Gut Health Workshop
Led by Harriet, these monthly workshops offer a welcoming space to explore the foundations of good gut health in a practical and accessible way.
Rooted in a plant-based, whole-food approach, each session blends learning with hands-on elements — from understanding digestion and the microbiome to exploring seasonal ingredients, simple recipes, and everyday habits that support long-term wellbeing. It’s an opportunity to deepen your knowledge, ask questions, and connect with others on a shared journey toward feeling well from the inside out.
If you would like to attend as a guest while you are staying at Westerlands, or to just to attend the workshop as a non-member, you are welcome to do so.
Priced at £10 for non-members and free for members.
Nature Craft Workshop
Guided by Libbie, these joyful sessions invite children to connect with nature through creativity, curiosity, and play. Using natural and foraged materials, children will craft, build, and explore — developing confidence, imagination, and a sense of belonging in the outdoors.
Each monthly workshop gently nurtures environmental awareness while allowing children the freedom to create, discover, and get their hands delightfully muddy.
If you would like to attend as a guest while you are staying at Westerlands, or to just to attend the workshop as a non-member, you are welcome to do so.
